In this seminar, we will discuss issues related to language translation, including translatability, the translation process, the use of translation in second-language education, bilingual lexicography, recent advances in machine translation, and the implications of those advances for second-language education. The translations discussed in class will be between Japanese and English and the class will be taught using both languages.
The schedule will be decided as the semester progresses.
The class will be conducted in both English and Japanese, and students should be comfortable using both languages.
