In this course, we will explore political and economic issues related to English-language education, with a particular focus on education in Japan. The specific issues to be explored will be decided by the students and teacher over the course of the semester.
Readings from various sources will be assigned each week, and the readings will be discussed in class. The readings and class discussions will be in both English and Japanese, so students should have high proficiency in both languages. Depending on the size of the class, students might be asked to give presentations on topics that they have investigated in depth.
Students will be graded based on their class participation and a final paper, which will be due a few weeks after the end of the semester.
