This special one year graduate seminar will have students work on an actual experimental project. The instructor will provide support and advice on how to collect, organize and analyze data, perform relevant statistics, prepare relevant tables and graphs, present the results and write a paper suitable for publication. Students will have the choice to work on a project prepared by the instructor or work on a project of their own. In the latter case, the project must be related to phonetics and language acquisition.
By the end of this one year seminar, students should have completed their experiment and data analysis (summer semester) and ready to submit a paper presenting their results to a relevant conference venue or academic journal (winter semester).
For this seminar, students are expected to participate to in-class discussions and presentations, work in pair or small groups on a common project outside the classroom and periodically meet with the instructor to address issues related to their specific project. Students are also expected to register for the two semesters (summer and winter) in order to fully complete their project.
Summer semester: interim report, oral presentations, participation
Winter semester: final paper, oral presentations, participation
