This course is intended to provide a review of psycholinguistic research in language acquisition with a particular focus on the production and perception of speech sounds by first and second language learners. Topics include infants' sensitivity to statistical distribution during early language development, the critical period hypothesis, a review of the different testing methods used with infants and adults, etc.
At the end of this course, students should be familiar with the terminology and methods used in the field of language acquisition, and able to understand and discuss experimental and theoretical work addressing topics related to language acquisition.
The course format is primarily made of lectures and in-class discussions, all of which are conducted exclusively in English.
