We shall read around twenty famous essays in English, from the early 17th century to the mid-20th century. The essays have their own interest individually, but they also reveal the development of modern English as a language, and changes in English prose style.
Classes will generally follow the same general pattern.
We shall read and discuss in class.
There will be an end-of-semester essay-style test. Classroom participation will also be considered.
All materials will be provided.
No specific reference materials are required.
The course will be given in English.
