In this course, we will read works about the space, place and power of language in society, with a particular focus on the experience of immigrants and others who use multiple languages. While works on the United States will be the primary focus, participants are welcome to refer to other nations.
We will read book excerpts or papers every week.
Students will take turns facilitating the discussion.
Assessment will be made holistically considering their participation in the discussions, their performance as facilitator, and their term paper.
Reference books will be introduced throughout the course.
The course will be conducted in English.
